How To Become a Better Running Back in Football.

Hi guys, making another article, this time a (American) football guide. Football is a popular sport, and many young players wish to become a player that others will envy (or fear). Become a scary running back by following these instructions:

First step: Become a faster and more powerful running back:
Always start sprints with short, choppy, and powerful strides. Focus your energy on exploding into acceleration. Work out in the gym (did I have to say that?)

second tip: Follow through on the plays. Remember to learn to trust your linemen and to expect the hole that they will undoubtedly provide. This does not mean to run into the defense just because that is what the play is meant to do. Have flexibility, if you see an opportunity to get some extra yards by going a different route, go for it, just be careful because that is not what your teammates would expect. So far the topics covered are to become a faster and more powerful running back, and to follow through on the plays.

tip #3: Eat lots of carbs. Carbohydrates are the main source of energy that your body uses. But you guys probably knew this. Become powerful, follow through, and eat carbs to become a better athlete.

How To Increase your Vertical!

This guide is going to teach you how to increase your vertical jump in the least amount of time. If you follow these strategies, you can't go wrong!

1) Running. Short sprints have been shown increase jump height. Just keep the sprints shorter than 30 yards. Vice versa: Increasing your vertical jump also improves your running speed!

2) Squats. Increase your leg strength with this powerful exercise. Just make sure you do it right (knees should be directly vertical from your feet, do not bend your knees forward. All of the power should come from the hips)

3) Calf raises. Stand on a step with heels of the foot hanging off the edge a couple inches. Extend your calves to raise to tip-toes. This strengthens the calf muscle which is an important aspect of being able to jump high.

4) Plyometrics. Jump onto a box that is elevated as much from the ground until you can barely jump onto it 15 times. Jump on this 15 times, plyometrics is probably the best method to increase your jumping. Just make sure you stay safe.

That's it! Stay safe and have fun!

10 common mistakes to avoid in basketball.

Hi guys, making another basketball post on what mistakes that are commonly made and could easily be avoided.

10) Not squaring up when you take a shot. Read my other blog post on correct shooting form.

9) Not knowing where your other teammates are. Be sure to always have location of teammates in the back of your mind, whether you are on offense or defense, whether you have the ball or not. This will help you when you have the ball, because then you can dish a pass out to teammates if you get in a tight spot or are trapped between defenders. If you are defending, you can play much tighter defense man to man, knowing whether there is help ready under the basket (another teammate can help cover a player who has gotten past you).

8) Making lazy fouls. Stay active, be ready to help your teammates, and stand straight up with hands above the shoulders when blocking a shot.

7) Arguing with the referee. Do not anger a ref who made (in your opinion) a bad call. Instead, just ignore these calls, and compliment him on calls that you think were good.

6) Being a poor sport. Do not be a poor sport, make sure you stay positive even when your team is not playing well. This keeps the game fun for both teams.

5) Being a ball hog. If you have defenders on you when you have the ball, and you see a teammate that is in a better position than you, and is open, make sure to pass him the ball. Shooting in this position can hurt your team, there are exceptions like number 4.

4) Taking a fade-away shot. Never take fade-away shots, if you are close enough to the basket that you can make the shot with a fade- away, you might as well jump straight up, even toward the basket. This is a good way to draw the foul and ultimately score points on the free throws.

3) Standing while dribbling. Always have spring in your step, and remember to keep low to avoid turnovers, and to stay in control of the ball.

2) Getting lazy. It is better to go all out for only a couple of minutes than having players stay in for long periods of time, but not pushing themselves. Bursting can break down even a really good team, and this will definitely help your team.

1) Expecting a loss. Never have a negative mindset for a basketball game. Always expect the win, and realize that success comes to those who fail. Remember your mistakes, and learn how to fix them. Help your team.

How to shoot a basketball

To learn how to shoot a basketball correctly, one must put a lot of time, effort, and practice forth at the gym, or anywhere else that there is a basketball and hoop ready.

1) Square up. Feet should be shoulder width apart, heels to toes should point to the basket. This is important, and many people mess up what could be a beautiful shot, by pointing their toes somewhere other than toward the hoop.

2) See the basket. Look at the basket (Duh!)

3) Imagine your shot. Imagine the path of the ball leaving your hand, into the basket. Think about what arc you think should be necessary for your shot. Do not concentrate too much, it has been shown that over-thinking a shot can be the cause for a miss.

4) Wind your body. Make a slight bend in the legs, should make a 70 degree angle, more or less. Bring your arms holding the ball, dominant hand on top, in the case of a right hander, thumb should point halfway straight, halfway to the left, we will call it 10 o' clock. Dominant hand has spread fingers. Other 'wimp' hand should be on (in this case left) the side of the ball, just holding it steady. Bring the ball above the head, if properly done, it should be one motion. Now, the arm, elbow, wrist, and hand should be at 90 degree angles.

5) Take the shot. With an explosive movement with the legs to provide some power, extend the forearm and snap the wrist.

Hopefully, at this point you have made the shot. If not, try again, eventually you will be able to make the majority of your field goals (shots within the 3-point line)
